Pom Pom Garland

I've seen garlands made of felted wool, and I thought it would be so much fun to make one. I loved the way they looked. Then I looked up the price of wool. I did not love how expensive it would be to make one. Then I had the idea to make a garland with pom poms instead.

I have never been able to make a pom pom look the way I wanted it to. It seems so simple, right? Just wrap the yarn, tie it in the middle, and cut it to make a pom pom. The problem for me was that it always looked like small pieces of yarn tied in the middle and not a pom pom. For some reason, though, this tutorial made it all click for me. My problem was not wrapping enough and not cutting enough.

This was a fun project for me. There is something so satisfying about taking something that looks like a disorganized mess and turning it in to a pom pom. Maybe I need to get out more.

So yeah. All you do is make a bunch of pom poms. I ended up using twenty total.

Then I threaded a large needle with crochet thread and strung them on. You could tie knots to keep the pom poms in place, but I just left mine because I wanted to be able to move them around if I needed to.

Then just hang your garland wherever you want it. I used the sophisticated method of tying the ends and taping the middle.

 And I gave the leftover pom poms to Bella, who then taped them to the fireplace. I love when my children are involved!
