Mixed Media Christmas Tree

I love all the projects out there that use old book pages.  I have a couple of friends who have been using old book pages or newspapers to create art, and I love how they have turned out.  Here is a version I came up with.  These are super simple and the possibilities are endless.

I used some old sheet music and glitter for the snow, book pages for snowflakes, floral moss for the tree and some scrapbook paper and a bead for the star at the top.
Here it is on my mantel.

To start, you'll need a canvas mat for your base.  Don't have one? Make your own!  I cut a handy panel {available in the lumber yard at Home Depot} to the size I wanted and covered it with Mod Podge.

Then I covered that with some white fabric cut slightly larger than my board.  Press down to make sure all the air bubbles are out.

Secure the edges to the back.  I used a glue gun.  Then give the whole thing another coat of Mod Podge and let dry.

Draw your design onto the fabric or canvas.

Use Mod Podge to add anything that will be flat.  I added my snowflakes, the tree trunk, and strips of sheet music.

Then use a glue gun to add anything three dimensional. I filled in the triangle with the moss, then glued a rosette made out of scrapbook paper to the top.

See? Easy, and the results are so fun!
