Silver Topped Glass Hurricanes

I was browsing around the Pottery Barn website and noticed that they have lots of glass hurricanes in their holiday decor section. I liked the silver rimmed ones a lot. So they're the inspiration for today's project.

I picked up three glass hurricanes at a thrift store. There are usually shelves full of them, in all sorts of shapes and sizes. If you can't find them at a thrift store, I also see them at dollar stores. They're a little more expensive that way, but still a lot less than the $79 they're going for at Pottery Barn.

I just spray painted the top silver and tied some twine and a bell around the top. Then I threw in some vase fillers and they were done. Aren't they pretty?

Want to make your own? They're easy, I promise.

Here's the tutorial in pictures:

Step 1: Tape your vase where you want the silver to stop. Make sure there aren't any bubbles in the tape for paint to leak through. Then tape newspaper inside and outside to protect the bottom from paint.
Step 2: Paint.
Step 3: Take off the paper, decorate them how you like, and enjoy.

See? Easy.

I love these! They look so elegant... and I like them better than the Pottery Barn version. =)
